A+ Expat Corner: Countries That Require Insurance with COVID-19 Coverage for Entry

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, more countries are now implementing insurance requirements for their foreign visitors. There were negative experiences of unpaid medical bills by foreigners that have led hospitals and healthcare organizations to call for insurance requirements.

So if you are travelling to a foreign country, you might need travel or international health insurance that covers the cost of your medical treatment for COVID-19. This ensures all visitors are covered for any unplanned expenses because of medical emergencies overseas.

If you are planning a week to go on vacation, then travel insurance might just be the coverage you need. But if you are a soon-to-be expat or someone who plans to spend longer overseas, then international health insurance is a great investment and will give you peace of mind in case you need access to healthcare in the future.

Countries Requiring Insurance Amid Coronavirus (COVID-19)

According to Square Mouth, these are the countries that demand visitors to have medical insurance to gain entry into their country as of date.

Anguilla

This country requires you to have health insurance that covers COVID-19 and its related medical expenses.

Aruba

Travelling to Aruba means you need to obtain COVID-19 travel insurance from the Aruba government. You can get covered for up to $75,000 for COVID-19 treatment depending on the policy.

Brazil

At departure and arrival, all visitors need to present proof of health or travel insurance that covers medical emergencies related to COVID-19.

Cambodia

All travellers are required to purchase a local health insurance package for COVID-19 treatment. This package is valid for 20 days only and foreign travellers must also pay a $2,000 deposit upon arrival to cover mandatory COVID-19 testing and other related medical expenses.

Costa Rica

To gain entry, tourists visiting Costa Rica must complete the online Health Pass 48 hours before arrival. Visitors must also provide proof of travel medical insurance that can provide $50,000 in coverage for COVID-19 related medical treatment and $2,000 in quarantine lodging expenses while in Costa Rica.

Jamaica

For travellers to gain entry into Jamaica, the government has issued a mandatory insurance fee of $40 as part of the island’s “Jamaica Cares” program to cover medical treatment for coronavirus, other illnesses, and treatments caused by natural disasters.

Lebanon

In the event of contracting coronavirus while staying in Lebanon, travellers must have medical insurance that offers full coverage of COVID-19 medical treatments during their entire stay.

St. Maarten

The government of St. Maartens imposes all foreign travelers to have COVID-19 insurance to gain entry into the country. This means showing proof of a policy that you have coverage for coronavirus-related expenses.

Thailand

If you’re travelling to Thailand, you need to have medical insurance that can cover COVID-19 treatments for at least $100,000.

The Bahamas

Including mandatory health insurance required by the Bahamian government, all visitors must complete the Bahamas Health Travel Visa in which the price varies depending on their length of stay. They must also present proof of a recent negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test.

Turks and Caicos

Aside from showing a recent negative test, travellers must present proof of a travel insurance policy that can cover COVID-19-related medical costs and hospitalizations.

Ukraine

Visitors going to Ukraine must get health insurance covering COVID-19 through a Ukrainian company that must be valid throughout the entire length of stay in the country.

As everyone faces the continued threat of the coronavirus, more and more countries are and will require the insurance coverage to ensure foreign nationals have enough protection if they are afflicted with COVID-19 in their country of destination.

What documents does A+ International Healthcare provide?
